Useful Tips

Packing  -   offer a comprehensive packing service or provide cartons, materials for owner packing. Very small items (trinkets and valuables) are best packed and sealed in a well labelled box. It is worth discussing who-does-what prior to the move.

Special arrangements  -  Carefully mark in advance any items which are not to go (we provide self adhesive labels for this purpose). If you have antiques or collections of paintings, tropical fish, cacti, hot house plants or any other unusual items discuss with us beforehand any special packaging needed.

System furniture -
These are not designed to be moved - the fixings used on some self-assembly furniture means it does not always re-assemble very well. If the units are transported whole, some suffer from the manoeuvre; from experience, it is not possible to guarantee the joint(s) of such furniture to stay in prime condition whether dismantled or moved as a unit.

Bedding -  Should be folded and placed in polybags, hanging clothes can be removed in our purpose made mobile wardrobes and mattresses, linens / pillows placed in polysleeves.

Drawers -  May be left full, if containing light weight clothing - NOT full of books / unwrapped breakables etc.

Parking -  Advise us of parking restrictions - we may need to liaise with traffic wardens / police, on your behalf. If your road tends to get a bit crowded, try and reserve a parking space by parking two cars with a largish gap in between (you will need 50ft / 15 mtrs in length).

Unloading -  You've seen your new home, we haven't - so do warn us about anything potentially difficult such as no vehicle access, a long, stepped path or a spiral staircase leading to the piano room in the attic and so on.

Domestic equipment -  Most homes have a surprising amount of sophisticated equipment. If you still have the manuals, check the instructions for moving hi-fi, t.v.'s, videos, dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, microwaves etc. If in doubt, speak to .

On The Removal Day

Instructions -  When the removal team arrives, they will introduce themselves putting you at ease for the hours ahead. Show them what has to be moved (don't forget the garage and the garden !). Just as important point out what is NOT to be moved. Where fitted carpets are being left particuarly in hallways, we provide protective coverings.

Refreshments -  Removing is hard work, and the occasional offer of tea / coffee / soft drink(s) is always welcome, by the removal team.
n.b. operates a no-smoking policy.

Hand luggage -  If there's anything you specially want off the van first at your destination, tell our foreman. Keep your hand luggage separate (coats, car keys, pet food and of course, the kettle !) as you will need them for you own journey. Don't let them get packed in the van !

Don't forget -  There's an awful lot of people with a vested interest in your whereabouts ! Remember the main ones such as banks, building societies, credit card companies, investment accounts, insurance companies / brokers, rental firms, vehicle licenses, doctor, dentist, electricity, gas, newsagents, opticians, passport offices, telephone, TV, water board, and of course, your friends - this is where 'change of address' cards are welcome and they're FREE when you move with .

DIY Removals

A professional removal can be inexpensive compared with the other costs associate with moving
i.e: Estate Agent's fees, Solicitor's fee, replacement furniture, carpets and curtains; and the lowest of all .............. your Removal fee.

Before you decide to Do It Yourself - conduct a little experiment - pick up a chest of drawers or a fridge. Walk backwards through the house and out of the front door. Do this twice, that's how you will feel after half an hour, imagine moving all you contents out ... and in again ... at your new address !! ... then ...

You will also need to hire a van, there will be:- A rental charge, a mileage charge, Insurance and fuel charges - cartons, packing materials, perhaps a piano trolley and sack barrow, rolls of tape, mattress bags, label tags, wardrobe cartons etc .... plus ....

Friend(s) to assist with the lifting, loading, wrapping and packing - they will want ££££ ???'s (will they still be your friend if your furniture - or their back - is damaged).

Unfortunately you won't always be hiring a van the size of a removal vehicle. So you may need to offload (where ?) before you can re-load and make several trips, going backwards and forwards.

Because of the to-ing and fro-ing, you'll want to get as much as possible in the van. Quite innocently, you may overload it and if you're caught (and many are) you will receive a heavy fine - far more than the entire cost of a professional move .... and finally .......

When you're totally shattered, returning the van, hopefully the hire depot is open, or pay another day's rental !

Think about it !! ... Then phone
